Ward Chorister
Okay...for the past while, about a year, I have been the ward chorister. Getting up every Sunday and leading the music in sacrament meeting, praying the whole time that I won't mess up (at least not visibly to everyone else). This last Sunday was like any other, first song went smoothly 4/4, second song was even better 3/4, but then came the rest hymn 6/4 or whatever they say. Plus it was to be played lively and fast. Yikes. I started with the classic 6/6 or 6/4 or whatever it is. I felt like I was going into spasm it was so fast (I'm sure I looked like it two). I went two verses before moving to 3/4 and just taking my time, one two, three four, five six, with each stroke. You could totally tell when I made the switch, I went from and angry Beethoven to shy school girl. At least my face matched my dress, RED!!! For the last verse I decided to fit in two 3/4's to make it look right. By the time I got it down the song was on the last line and I know the ward was stomaching their laughter. Well glad that I could help people smile:)

You know, I was ward chorister for a long time too, and the same thing happened to me!! I guess it just happens to every chorister after you lead X amount of songs. (I wonder if it was the same song...haha) I did 6/4 because that's what it said to do up top and so my hand was doing spasms too. I felt like a fool and it was so embarrassing!! I switched halfway through the verse, to 3/4 or 2/4, I don't remember... and that felt weird too because then it was just too slow. But I actually talked about it after to people, and I bet you'd be surprised how many people in your ward didn't even notice. But I definitely made sure, from then on, once I saw them putting up the hymn numbers to run through it quickly before the meeting began. Haha. Oh geez...just look at it as a right of passage. You are officially a chorister now!
You're awesome! I hope people never look at me too. I can never tell if you mess up, so no worries! Thanks for leading Sunday since we weren't there. :)
That is so funny that you and Jordan ran into each other... and Walmart of all places. I wondered if that would ever happen when I heard you guys lived there and Jordan was transferred there. Yes, I think he looks so old now too! Haha, he'll just always be my little bro.
Ahh..Good Ol' Elk Grove days (It's changed so much there)! I miss you and your family.
Oh, Meghan! Don't even worry about it, I didn't even notice. I lead one week for Amy and I remember feeling really embarrassed, too. If it's anything other than 3/4 or 4/4 I'm basically a mess.
I'm sure you did amazingly! I pray I am never the choir director...I would be horrible!
Hey Meghan, I found your blog through Amy's. I can totally understand how you would feel self conscious because I totally would too, but I promise people don't notice if you make mistakes :)
I definitely did not notice. I don't even think I ever look at you while singing. Maybe I will now :)
lol! i doubt the ward is even paying attention, so no worries!!! i wouldn't even know if you screwed up cuz i'm musically challenged...
